If you’ve been bitten by the home decorating bug but don’t have a lot of money to spend, don’t despair. If you can be patient and are willing to pick up items one at a time, there are ways you can give your home the look you want without going broke.

Browse through sale catalogs that you get in the mail before throwing it away. You may find the bedding collection that you have been pining for on sale! Some stores periodically run promotions where you will receive a gift card or coupon for so much off your next shopping trip. If you one of those cards or coupons, watch their sale ads carefully. You may find something you wanted on sale and can save even more with your coupon.

Be sure to check out the clearance aisles when you are shopping. You may be able to pick up affordable home decor accents such as towel racks or mirrors. The clearance aisle is also a great place to find bargains on seasonal items. You may have to store the great table cloth you found for Thanksgiving until next year, but you will probably also save a lot of money.

Consider trading something you have and no longer use with a friend. Perhaps she no longer needs the Disney baby bedding set that she has and you no longer use the lamp that she just loves. You’ll both get something you want without spending any money at all!

When you are traveling, make a point to stop in at unique shops. You never know what special items you might find. Or plan a day trip with your special someone. Take along a lunch and spend the day browsing thrift stores. There’s a lot to look at, so take your time and you may go home with a real bargain.

Fresh cut flowers don’t last a long time, but they do add color and pretty smells to a room. If you have a flower garden, consider cutting a few flowers to enjoy inside. Add them to a pretty vase and display on a table.

Consider making accessories yourself. Buy fabric on sale and make new pillows to put on your couch or sew a pretty topper for a side table to add new color to the room.

Think about painting a room. Watch home improvement store sale ads, buy your paint on sale and give a room a bright new look!
